Myself - Nigel Folds, my wife Rebecca Folds & Viv Stamford a textile artist have got the use of the old Co-Op building on Promenade Bridlington as studio & exhibition space through an organisation called East Street Arts, based in Leeds. The gallery will be right next door to the new Bridlington Premier Inn. Our other neighbour is the new £25 million leisure centre with fun pool. We are in good company. This part of town is looking up and new businesses are moving in. We hope that visitors to both the new Bridlington Premier Inn & the new Bridlington Leisure Centre will call into the gallery too. The plan for Bridlington Contemporary Gallery, as we are calling it, is initially to use it as a studio together with Viv, and also to use it as an exhibition space to show our work.
Rebecca & I have spent the year since the exhibition at Staxton looking for galleries large enough to show my paintings to their best advantage, without much success. We were able to show a whole collection of work together (the Playford Paintings) in a dedicated gallery space. The only thing that has come close was my exhibition at Kardomah94.
Anyway, I am going to try and document our journey from old supermarket to Bridlington Contemporary Gallery on this blog. I hope you follow our journey on here, Facebook & twitter.
